8 Sep. - Buttermere

A tale of three busses.
Bus one - 'It sounds like a steam train'.
Bus two - 'Could you please get off and walk'.
Bus three - 'It's newer ... and wider than the old'.
Day Riders.
A walk around the lake - every view a postcard or painting.
Just look + see, but the camera compels its use.
Small lake, deep valley, crags + screes + cascades + still, crystal, pure, rippled reflection water.
The path past pasture + through woodland - pine + oak + who knows which?
A horse chestnut?
Tea + flapjack at Buttermere then climb Honister.
And climb again, on foot, to the mine entrance - adit - famous for green slate.
We scan + scour, looking for suitable scraps, chips among the copious waste piles beside the track.
Then stand + turn to, once again, the view - snaking road to valley floor, green in the distance + sunlit - away from the grey cool of the pass.
Notes: The steep topography and small villages of the Lake District take their toll on the bus fleet. Bus two failed to complete the steep climb to Honister Pass with all passengers aboard. Bus three only just negotiated a tight bend between buildings without damage. Day Rider tickets are a boon for those on a budget.
