3 Sep. - Mallaig

ScotRail - Smooth, quiet, odourless, Wi-Fi, diesel, through heavy mist + low cloud + wind-driven drizzle to Mallaig.
End of the line.
Fishing port.
Ferry terminal.
Quiet village + circular path to high vale with outlook to Skye all green + brown + craggy + rising to hide in cloud.

'The Jacobite' steams into town with huff + woof + hiss + squeal, bringing train and Harry Potter buffs.
The tolerant locals - plying the intruders with coffee + tea, fish + chips, postcards + gewgaws - always polite, quiet, welcoming, patient.

Then steaming back 'home' with rhythm + click-clack + smoke-smell + smuts flying in the window.
The excitement of the viaduct + then settle in for the jig-jog along + talk of travels in other lands + times.

Notes: Only riding The Jacobite in one direction allows rewarding time to explore Mallaig.
