1 Sep. - Loch Ness

Image: Roadsign to An Gearasdan (Fort William)

Prior night attic pizza - sourdough crust - Italian wine + false heater.

B+B bay window - Silver crushed-velvet curtains - Electric jug on bedroom carpet + breakfast in teacups - Bathroom across landing with shower on 'Weet-Bix' plinth to save plumbing - Keys in bowl + off you go. All a little tawdry.

Bus station tourists + overweight staff. Jokey driver with strong Scots accent - Narrow road with twists + turns + big busses both ways - One wheel in gravel as we pass.

Along past Loch Ness, Loch Oich + Loch Lochy to Fort William + the locks of Neptune's Staircase at the end of the Caledonian Canal. Telford once more + still going strong.

Swannay porter + stout before bed.

Notes: Our first stay (one night) in an old-school B+B. Hopefully our last! Weet-Bix is my term for the unfortunate use of particle-board in wet areas like bathrooms - all damp, swollen, mouldy and manky. Swannay Brewery on Orkney (and their products) highly recommended!
