22 Oct. - Kuala Lumpur

Image: (Ant)Eros statue at Piccadilly Circus, by Alfred Gilbert. Our means of flight from London was sadly much more prosaic.

Oysters take us to Heathrow with 40p to spare.

Careful selections at Duty Free all wasted due to 100 ml restrictions + a nice guy on the security check lets me enjoy the last of the Glenfarclas 15 years.

On flight one we are trapped against the window and limited to 'Modified Content' movies to appease our puritan Islamic 'hosts', who also seem not to wish to feed us or provide Wi-Fi.

Kuala Lumpur at dawn looks hazy + damp through the terminal windows ...

Flight #2 is equally spare of quality but we enjoy back row seats + the subsequent freedom of movement they offer.

It's strange but nice to arrive at the SYD terminal with its relaxed welcome + S to greet + help us home.

Toast + tea + a cleansing shower sees us to bed + sleep.

Notes: Nine glorious weeks of wide travel in the UK and of course we barely scratched the surface. I would return tomorrow if only it were possible. Not because it's my 'birthplace' but simply because it is such a rich, varied and yet strangely familiar land. I hope you have enjoyed my impressions.

Please stay tuned for a special pre-lockdown 'bonus' long-weekend in Hobart ...
